Abyssinian Cats in America
by
KittyKondo.com
Abyssinian Cats first
arrived in the U.S. from Great Britain in the early 1900s
and were exhibited in Boston in 1909. After 1909, there was
no record of additional importing of the AbyCat until several decades later in the 1930s where
many quality Abys were brought over to the U.S. The
first Abyssinian cat litter was born in 1935 and from then
on American interest in the breed began to grow.
The growing U.S. interest help re-establish the cat breed
after World War II which had a detrimental affect on the
Abycat population in Great Britain. The AbyCat of
today is one of the top five cat breeds in the United States
and in 1998 Abyssinian cats ranked 5th among 37 breeds
ranked by the Cat Fancier's Association.
