Abyssinian Cats and Ancient Egypt
by
KittyKondo.com
Many cat fanciers have duly noted that the Abyssinian cat
resembles the sacred cats depicted on ancient Egyptian art,
statues and sculptures nearly 4000 years ago.
While there is no
conclusive proof that the AbyCat is a direct descendant of
ancient Egyptian feline, sculptures such as the statue of Bast,
an Egyptian fertility Goddess who took the form of a cat imply
that the Aby may have a distant relative.
Abyssinians resemble the cat form of Bast with its muscular body,
beautiful arched neck, large ears and almond shaped eyes.
