History of the Bombay Cat
The Bombay
Cat was named after a city in India because of its resemblance
to that country's leopard. The Bombay cat breed was
created in the late 1950s and early 1960s when Burmese cats
were cross-bred with black American Shorthair cats.
The Bombay cat is medium in size but very muscular.
Its head is round with no sharp angles and its face is full
with round eyes set far apart. The coat of the Bombay cat is
very short, fine and close lying and gleams like satin.
You will only find the Bombay cat in the color black.
The personality of the Bombay Cat can be described
as smart and agile.
Bombay cats love companionship and may become depressed or misbehave
when lonely. These are loving and companionable cats that show
great affection, although not as vocal as other cats.
