History of the Devon Rex Cat
The Devon
Rex is an unusual and exotic cat breed that originated in the
1960s when a single kitten exhibited a spontaneous mutation:
the kitten had a curly coat and a pixie-like appearance. In
consequent years , the Devon Rex was cross-bred with the American
Shorthair in order to expand its gene pool without losing its
unique appearance.
The Devon Rex has a small
to medium-sized body frame but is well-muscled. Although it
is a small animal it can be quite heavy.
Its face looks much like an elf, but full cheeked with prominent
whisker pads. Giving it a pixie-like appearance is its
large ears that are wide and set very low on the sides of its
head. Its oval eyes are large and set wide apart toward
the outer edge of its ears. Since its fur coat is sparse,
the Devon Rex will feel very warm sitting on your lap.
Its coat can be said to have a "rippling effect".
The personality of the
Devon Rex Cat can be described as affectionate.
They mature rapidly and from the time they are kittens are strong
and extremely mobile.
