Is Your Cat a Tabby Cat?
by
KittyKondo.com
Tabby Cats have thin pencil
lines on their fac and expressive markings around the eyes. You
can also notice a letter "M" type marking on the typical tabby
cat.
If you look closely at the lighter part of the
tabby's coat you can notice individual hairs forming a
"striping" pattern with alternating dark and light bands.
This is similar to the stripes on a rabbit or squirrel.
A tabby is thought to be the wild child of
domesticated cats. Some people even refer to tabbies as
"tiger cats".
Different types of tabby cat patterns
include:
Mackeral
- A cat with narrow stripes that run
parallel and down its sides.
Classic
- You'll find bold, swirling patterns on
the sides of this tabby like a marble cake.
Spotted
- You can find spots all
over this tabby's sides. The spots can be large or small and
can appear like broken 'mackeral' stripes.
Ticked
- A ticked tabby has tabby
marking on its face but does not have stripes or spots on its
body.
Tabby Cats come in many different colors:
brown or grayish brown, blue or grayish blue, red or orange,
cream or peachy and silver. The silver tabby's roots are
white and you can have blue-silver, cream-silver or red-silver
tabby. Make sure you check the roots!
