Most kittens are born during  the seasons of spring or summer and looking for a kitten during this time will increase your likelihood of finding one. Why spring or summer? Cats have a natural instinct to give birth during these seasons because during these times there are plenty of wildlife to hunt and feed on. Indoor cats may be a different story since the year-round availability of food can allow the indoor cat to breed any time of the year.

   For  purebred cats the "kitten season" may vary per cat breed or cat breeder. Some breeders will keep their "Queen" indoors at all times under artificial light to increase the chances of  pregnancy. Also, some specific breeds have their own pre-defined patterns of mating and breeding.
