History of the Norwegian Forest Cat

The Norwegian Forest Cat is a beautiful, wild-looking cat and comes from an ancient, natural breed that once lived in the woods of Norway.  In its history with man the Norwegian Forest Cat proved its superior hunting ability and often praised by Norwegian farmers. This cat breed almost became extinct during World War II and survives to this day due to a preservation effort organized by a former President of the Norwegian Cat Association.

This cat is medium-sized in length but has a large body frame with solid muscles and bone structure. The chin of the Norwegian Forest cat is firm, in line with its nose and gently rounded.  Its paws are large, round and densely tufted and its tail is densely furred and remains that way throughout the year.  The Norwegian Forest Cat is a long-haired cat that comes in many variety of types and colors, except for color-pointed. Popular colors for this cat breed include brown or silver tabby: these colors has helped the Norwegian Forest Cat blend into its woodland surroundings.

The Norwegian Forest Cat Personality can be described as companionable and affectionate. This is a cat that loves to be handled and petted.
