You may have noticed on your cat or some cats a particular white spot that occurs on a specific area of your cat's body. This white spot can appear in any cat regardless of color and it may be either big or small.

Here are the different names for the different kinds of white spots:

Mitted - A cat with white spots on the paws(how cute!)

Locket - If you're cat has a white spot on the chest, it has a 'locket'.

Buttons- These white spots appear on the cat's belly area.

Bi-Color - A cat whose body color is 50% white.

Harlequin- Mostly white bodied cat with several large patches of colored spots.

Van - Cat that is almost all white with color patches only on the head and tail.

Some cats have are a combination of black and white with white paws, white chest and a white belly.  Such cats are affectionately referred to as "tuxedo cats".

Some people call black/white cats 'jellicle cats' (after T.S. Eliot)
