History of the Turkish Angora Cat
The Turkish Angora
cat breed originates from the country of Turkey and are a natural
occurring breed of long-haired cats.
As early as the 16th century Turkish Angoras were often presented
as a gift from Turkish sultans to European nobility. These cats
have been protected in their own country since the 1940s and
a strenuous effort has been made in Turkey to maintain the purity
of Turkish Angora cat bloodlines. In Turkey the Ankara Zoo houses
a colony of white Angora cats.
The
Turkish Angora cats is a lithe, balanced, graceful animal with
a muscular, medium-sized body. Its nose is long and gently
pointed and legs are long and sturdy. Its notable tail is long
and plumed and goes from wide to narrow from base to tip.
Turkish Angoras have fine, dense coats which is silky and shimmers
with every movement. The coat of the Turkish Angora cat does
not become fully developed until the cat reaches the age of
two years old. Original Angora cats were only white in color
although currently you can find turkish angoras in a variety
of patterns and types.
The personality
of the Turkish Angora cat can be described as extremely intelligent,
gentle and charming.

A White Turkish Angora who has odd-colored eyes (each eye a different
color) may be deaf in the ear on the same side as its blue eye.
